Now then I have the rare luxury of opening the lid to observe the actual "wash" cycle of this marvel of engineering. Being a handy type guy with tools, I looked up the procedure for bypassing the lid lock switch, which is pretty simple, and got the machine going again. This morning I accidentally broke the plastic lid lock and the machine refused to fire up as per it's "safety" design. Have always used the correct HE detergent and ran it's cleaning cycle several times with no improvement. Clothes have always come out still dirty and it gives them an added bonus, stinky. We have a Maytag Centennial, three years old, and have been very disappointed with it since day one.
